Abraham Lincoln’s observation and advice are prescient for us today. Virtually everyone is born with an inherent desire to direct their own life. It is evident in babies when in an impulse of rejection they drop their food onto the floor, or toddlers when they become possessive about a favorite toy, or five-year-olds throwing a tantrum over going to bed. While growing up into adulthood external factors can and do influence how this desire to be in control develops. Properly reinforced and disciplined, the person becomes a responsible adult. But if a person becomes fixated on insecurity, the anxiety that this produces can supplant their original belief system. One word describes this condition: Paranoid.
Everyone is born as a freeple – valuing the freedom to direct their own life. Sheeple are nothing more than normal people that have had their natural-born belief system subverted by their societal interactions. Remember this saying? “There, but for the grace of God, go I.” You could have just as easily ended up as a sheeple as anyone else (I did). It was mostly through the luck of the draw that your interaction with society while you grew up did not program you into sheepleism (or that again led you out of it, as it did me). In essence, the goal of The Paranoid Quiz website is not complicated. Quite simply: If you remove the societally programmed paranoia from a sheeple, you end up with a freeple. I aim to tamper with society and at least reverse the balance from the Solomon Asch study which found a ratio of 1/3 freeple and 2/3 sheeple. To accomplish this we must do as Lincoln said, “We must disenthrall ourselves…”
